In order to achieve a listing on this MDWA directory, a dog walker needs to become a member of the Modern Dog Walkers Association (MDWA), the largest professional body supporting and representing professional dog walkers in the UK. To become a Member of the MDWA, the dog walker needs to:

Agree to have appropriate business insurance in place
Undertake continual professional development (CPD) to ensure their skillset and knowledge base is broad and up to date
Sign and agree to abide by the MDWA Code of Conduct underlining their commitment to the very highest professional, ethical and welfare standards available in the dog walking sector
Have a professional understanding of how to tailor walks to suit dogs of all ages, temperaments and health etc. They would have studied topics such as safe dog introductions, transport and important canine handling requirements
Have a respect for the security and safety of your property and belongings
Have an in-depth understanding of current regulatory requirements – national and local.
Have an understanding of the importance of Risk Assessments and comprehensive record keeping
Have a commitment to a solid and regular end of walk reporting system to keep you informed of developments or observations regarding your dog
